Ovulation vs Plan B

So last night at 1 am my boyfriend and i had a mishap with a broken condom. Now I'm not on a regular BC, so my boyfriend is adamant about me taking Plan B. I have never taken it before so i did some research and all it does is delay ovulation. Now heres the kicker, according to my regular period/ovulation tracker, i was ovulating from the 21st to the 26th. Just to be safe, i downloaded another period tracker and an ovulation calculator. My last period was the 7th, lasted 4 days and my average cycle is 32 days. The secondary period tracker says i have 4 days until my next period, but the ovulation calculator says my fertile dates were the 22nd through the 27th and i ovulated on the 25th. Do y'all think Plan B will work? Or did the timing kill those chances? Also, a little afraid of Plan B side effects.. and wise words on that?

Well, you are not sure if you ovulated or not.  Perhaps you should call your doctor for guidance.  There is also the abortion pill.

If you are ovulating right now, it would still probably work because it would prevent fertilization according to info I've read.

I don't know how accurate your ovulation tracker is to your true ovulation (if that was always accurate, women who were trying to conceive would have a much easier time of it).  To me, you sound like you are right on the cusp or have just ovulated but we just don't know for sure.  good luck

My research shows that a plan b does Not prevent implantation (aborting potential pregnancy) what it does is delay your ovulation.. so if i am ovulating, then it would be non effective, right?

Hi there and welcome.  Plan B is documented to terminate any potential pregnancies.  It jolts the system with hormones so that a nothing can implant or be sustained.  Perhaps you had this happen a day after you ovulated but you can't count on that.

Ovulation works like this----  there is just a 24 to 48 hour time frame in which an egg is there to be fertilized.  however, leading up to it, sperm can live for a few days.  Once you've ovulated, you can not get pregnant that cycle.  But the problem is, ovulation is not an exact science and can happen outside of what you consider the normal time.  yesterday was the 26 and based on one of your trackers, you could still have been ovulating.

Plan b does jolt your system with hormones.  basically it will throw your cycle off.  you may bleed right away and then skip a period.

but better that than an unplanned, unwanted pregnancy, right?

You then need to use reliable birth control every time because you will be irregular and it will be impossible to know exactly when you will ovulate again.  your cycle will normalize though eventually.

good luck
