did you find out what was bothering your LO? My son 20 months has the same thing. 2 different docs and no answers but it's driving him (and me crazy). Not HFM as it is not spread and has not gotten better after about 3 weeks. :( I'd love to know if you figure it out. We wondered if it could be from his feet sweating at night....
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and advice! I also want to thank you for shareing your remedies for easing the itch, when I was reading your post I felt like kicking myself, I did know about the cider vinegar and completely overlooked it. The tea tree oil seemed to help for a couple of days, but after last ni ght I am not sure, she was really bad last night. I will take a look on webMD, can I ask you to share your diagnosis, to have a starting point to research?
I can not say for certain that your daughter has what I have. It does sound very similar to what plagued me off and on since I was young except mine was on my hands. If you go to WebMD and do a search, there are many possible causes, and I only recently, after going to a Dermatologist, was finally given a diagnosis. Although mine has worsened since last December and spread. It took several visits and being persistent for an answer before a diagnosis was given, but I would definitely suggest instead of a pediatrician, have her seen by a dermatologist since that is their specialty. You may also try epson salt soaks, or if she won't sit still for that, wrap her feet in towels that have been soaked with the warm solution, and maybe read her a book to keep her still. That should help with itching a little. Also people overlook some of the obvious old school tricks such as vinegar. Using apple cider vinegar in her bath, about 1 cup per half tub of water adjusting the amount according to the amount of water you use, it is great as an anti itch bath, as well as good for balancing PH in skin. I myself use it straight up with wash clothes and apply to the areas I need relief for a few minutes. If I am really busy than I use a cotton ball and apply it dripping to the areas I need relief also. This works better than any cortisone creams I have ever used, both over the counter and script. I hope this helps to relieve some of the itching, my heart goes out to your little girl as I know how horrible the itching can be. Please keep me posted to the outcome and God Bless!
Thank-you, I have had the kids at the public pool all summer, we tried to be careful and wear shoes when in the showers and locker room but walking to and from the pool shoes are not allowed. . . I will be at the pediatritians for my other child today and will ask about this, as well as look into treatment.
Many, many thanks for your reply.
When confronted with such a case, like your child's the first diagnosis would be 'scabies'. Pediatric scabies could sometimes be missed due to localization to certain areas like feet or cheek, for example making it atypical.. Also since it can take 4-6 weeks for the rash to develop, keep in mind that all family members may not have symptoms at the same time due to incubation period. Possibly it could have been aquired at the pool. Since the acarus comes out at night maximum itching would be at night.
It is indeed very difficult to diagnose, but once the cause is known treatment is simple!
Ary had a doctors appt. yesterday, her pediatritian had no idea's nor suggestions, Please has anyone experienced this? The "rash" for lack of any other name, has not spread, or worsened but it has not changed for the better either.
Please, We need help!
Thank you for taking the time to try to help.
I am fairly certain that hand foot and mouth is not applicable, however. First of all, the spots are not blisters, nor did she have a fever, nor has anyone else who has been in close contact with her for the two weeks that the spots have been there, become infected with the "highly contagious" hand, foot and mouth virus.
I do appreciate your time and suggestion as no one else has taken the time to suggest anything. But it just doesn't fit.
best wishes!
Still looking for answers. . .
It could be hand, foot, and mouth. http://chealth.canoe.ca/condition_info_details.asp?disease_id=310
