8yr old attitude

my 8yr old also has a "smart A## attitude and it drives me craze, i need to pull him aside and tell him STOP THIS MOUTH RIGHT NOW " he tells me something like "WOW MOM DID YOU HAVE ABAD DAY AT WORK" ..oooooH NO . so what has helped me has been standards , yes the old fashion way ... he Hates it!! and the more he nags the more he does.... then we talk about it and i tell  him next time it will be standards plus something else.... so far that has him where i want him ..lol but THEY ARE SOMETHING ELSE! THEY ARE 8 GOING ON 25 FOR SURE!

Could he have learned it from someone in the family is there anyone else speaks like it, how do you mean standards?
