Twitching

by dan99, Jul 29, 2003 12:00AM
Hello...I am a male in my late 20's. I start to twitch about 1 1/2 months go. The twitch is all over mainly on my rigt calve. Is has got better in the last week (only about 20 times per pay) but I am very scare of it leading to ALS. My GP told my ALS is very rare and left it at that. I got examinine by a Neuro and he said I was fine. However I have a small dent bellow my callor bone which is not there on the other side. Six months ago my blood test showed high levels of Uric Acid. My question is What is the best way to rule our ALS and is Uric Acid associated with ALS?

Thanks

At your age it would be highly unusual for you to have ALS. The evaluation of ALS includes seeing a neurologist and if indicated having an EMG test. This is a test that involves placing a needle into muscles within your legs, arms, back, and in some cases your tongue. The needle measures the electrical activity of the muscle. This test is usually performed by a neurologist. I am not aware of any association between uric acid and ALS.

There is an entity called benign fasciculation syndrome, which is a disorder of twitching muscles in otherwise normal people. It is possible that this is what you are experiencing.
