that is such a good thing to hear wait2long- i'm counting on it, and thanks for sharing : )
most likely nothing would have happened because of the ceiling effect, yours was just lower and taking more doesnt do more once your at that ceiling...
there has never been an overdose on suboxone alone...it is a very safe drug as long as its used properly - believe it or not...i was om 32 mgs of sub for 6 weeks, i am now down to 8-10 mgs, and feel no difference between the doses...and no side effects or any withdrawals from my taper...i have had nothing but a positive experience with suboxone.
Always counseling would help for me...when i tried to quit before the lack of energy is what got me to go back-and i had been off for a week or a bit more, so thats why i went the sub route this time-to get me through that first couple of weeks.
i sure did get overmedicated on that day one~whew~i was scared! now i think i've got a handle on the sub and understand what to do--i can't imagine what would have happened if i would have taken the full 16 mgs that the dr put on my taper schedule...
Thank you everyone for your concern and advice... : )
its pretty difficult to be over medicated with sub...there is a ceiling effect with sub...and the amount of drugs and the severity of your addiction does play a role in how much sub the doctor prescribes, as does your weight and size - hes gotta start somewhere and regardless of the very first dose he prescribes, most likely it will always be wrong...finding your dose IS trial and error, YOU are the only one who knows how you feel, no doctor can predict that for you. and sub isnt that new of a drug anymore, theres tons of information available on the net...read, read, research ask and read some more...arm yourself with information, its something everyone should do who is taking sub or considering sub.
also i transitioned from methadone to sub...it takes up to 30-40 days for methadone to be gone from your body...for withdrawals - 3-5 days depending on dose and length of time on it. i was on the full 32 mgs of sub a day and wished more would have helped, but because of the ceiling effect, it would have been a waste...sub only works to a certain point, but that certain point seems to be different with everyone...again...trial and error is the only way to find whats right for you...as EVERYONE is different.
In 4 days you will be through w/d's you are almost there, why continue??? I can understand feeling good and having to things and if you can't take the time off to c/t. I'd ask him if he really feels you should continue your treatment or maybe counseling and NA could help too.
i'm sorry i don't know anything about methadone-i do know that you have to be in mild/moderate withdrawl before starting sub- not TOTAL withdrawl~i don't think drs know very much about it either
My PM says when I finish the methadone taper in 12 days, i have to be off it 3 day before starting sub.....he says you cant have any methadone in your body or the sub will make you very sick....My question is why take the sub, if he gets me of the hydros with the meth...In 10 day I will be thru the WD's, right....what is the sub for then
Thanks for postive feed back...
I am on day 4 of suboxone so here's wishing us both success and no aggravating side effects...lol.
My only side effect was nausea but I have dropped to 6mg for the day so hopefully it will be milder and then go away for good.
Take care! Lyn
PS> Just a heads up, I think it was Flmagi that told me to take my last dose before 4pm because sub can keep you awake at night and she was right. You might be sleepier now while getting your dose adjusted but just mentioning this to you for in a few days if it happens. If it does, you can take melatonin for sleep. I take 1 300mcg tablet per night.
It sounds like you all are getting overmedicated in my personal opinion. If you are nodding out and getting a high feeling off the drug then its not doing what it is suppose to. I think that doctors especially suboxone doctors go soley on how much opiate you were consuming and base the dose on that not to detox you. That is the flaw in my opinion with suboxone. I am not a hypicrite of the drug it helped me tremendously, but as worried said for the first 7 days I was passing out on 1x 8mg daily, I could have detox and gone through w/d's instead of getting high and hooked on another drug. I was on suboxone for 9 months too long...Try to keep your dose low as possible don't overdo it, it is there to help you get off drugs not to replace them.
finding the correct dose is tricky, it takes your body 5 days to adjust to a dose of sub, this also pertains to a decrease or an increase...you should try to stick it out with your first dose for at least 5 days to give your body time to adjust...if your still having withdrawals, then add another 2-4 mgs, wait up to 2 hours (it CAN take up to 2 hours to peak) if it takes the WD's away then that should be the dose to stick with for the next 5 days...then decrease or increase 2mgs at a time, about 90 mins apart.
if you are constantly adjusting your dose everyday, then your body will never adjust to a dose which can make it more difficult to find your correct dose.
also the tiredness can be from too high of a dose, or also too low of a dose and it is a form of withdrawals...
some people get drowsy, some get speedy...i got neither one...LOL! everyone responds to sub differently, i have never heard of 2 stories the same...
just give your body the time to adjust to 1 dose before you change it again, if you can...but dont let yourself be sick either...
good luck!
That happened to me also.. but I had an hour and a half to drive home... I took a half of a tablet and didnt feel anything.... I took the other half before I left the doctors and it hit me hard.. It was a long drive..
Well the heavy eyes are going away now- it figures since i could be going to bed soon....lol--but i will cut down the dose tomorrow. I have a job at a desk where i sit at a computer so i sure the heck hope that i can fix it by Sunday when i go back to work...
OMG, I only take 2 mgs 3 times daily and that's exactly what happens to me!!! If I'm up, I'm fine...I have energy to clean and whatever. But if I'm sitting, whether it's to drive, or at the dinner table eating, or having a dinner conversation, my eyes are so heavy I almost (and sometimes do) pass out. I rarely drive with the kids lately, unless it's at the right time between doses where I'm ok...or I have coffee. Definately not at night. Dang.I think it's getting better. I thought it was just me!!!!!! whew.
Yes Magi and I both had that the first week. It felt like the sub was motion activated.lol Try lowering your dose just a bit. It will go away, even if you don't . Hang in there it will get so much better.
Dont know...i read and i read these posts and i sometimes think that by the time people get this dose thing right, they may have been done with wids...course alot of things depend such as dose and relapses...I tapered quick and quit so i dont know...i do know if ur dose is not right it causes all this stuff...this is ur plan so work it out and talk to ur doctor to get the dose right...getting clean is the goal however u get there....u have a plan...keep posting
Yea, it does that,,, you want to go heavyeyed for a while then when you get up... vwa la! It is weird... It doesn't do that to me anymore and once you level out... finding the right dose... it's good. I've been on for 20 months or so and have no plans to getting off. I'm just about at that point that I'm going to start making plans... I will tell you that my life has improved 100 percent. I have gone off for two weeks once and couldn't hang, but there were other things going on too. There are other website specific too bubrenorphine that will help a lot.
****.org, i have heard is a great website for just suboxone patients....try that!!
I have heard that when u take too much, that is the side effects...I have never taken it, just stuff i have read....Also i think that it takes a while to peak...SO please be carefull, especially when driving until u find your right dose...I think that also takes a while...just keep a jounal of times and how you feel....hope things get better
wait2long can probably help you alot!!
