What are LA drugs

I have been on 10  325 hydrocodone for about two years. I am prescribed 10 a day. I am ALWAYS filling 5 days early. Lately taking 12 pills a day. Seem to need 3 pills for pain relief that lasts a few hours. My question is how do I approach my doctor about this without him thinking ibam drug seeking and sending me to a pain mngment clinic. What are these la drugs . A pm guy put me on 15 mg of mscontin 3 tmes a day and norco for break through but it seems the mscontin worked for about two days. That doc treated me terribly so I walked out. I have been here before but now ma ready to listen.

Are you sure your doctor is prescribing you 10 10mg hydros each day?  2,000mg is the max dose of tylenol one should ingest per day.....u r taking 3,225 mg of tylenol a day.  This is odd that a doctor would  RX so many hydro verses putting u on a long acting drug.  4 daily is about the max ydro dose a doc will RX in most cases, long term anyway.  The DEA will come down on him like stick on glue.
I agree with domino,,,,the chronic pain forum is for those who have accepted narcotic use and deal with it differently than those here.  For us, chronic narcotic use is not the answer.
good luck to u

Well..perhaps it s a coincidence..a good one perhaps?  I beleieve addiction is a disease and the 1st step is knowing u have this disease.  It doesnt make us dirty, stupid or less of a person, or we would all be losers.  We are not because we took the 1st step and admitted it to ourselves.  Admitting to others is a huge step, and probably easier here than in a true life setting, but is a fantastic start...and many never even make this step.  You did and congrats!  Now, you just have to figue out what you want to about this problem.  This pproblem is a serious problem and you have probably already noticed it will suck the life out of you just like terminal cancer, but worse in a way, because we inflict it upon ourselves.  For most addicts, all I would guess, switching narcs, cutting down etc are not true long term answers.  Even a heavy smoker cant pick up a cig again without getting back to the old level of use as a rule.

I am a chronic painer as well...just dont want to be an addict on top of it.  I willl not go into the details of my back full of rods and fusions, but I had to make a choice.  Reading through the health pages here and just posting can help u move forward.  It is true that a fellow addict can see straight thru another addict, so u wldnt have lasted long here in disguise.  We are here to help...and i think in ur own way u r askking
I am Laura, and I am an addict.

Thank you for your kindness.  I admit I have an addiction to these damn things , they have taken over my life. I am not a liar I am given 300 a month 10 a day , please believe me. I also must get this pain under control , all I think about are the pills pills pills. I won't go out to dinner or on a trip or to the gas station without pills. BUT I can't just stop , the pain is excruciating. Others have said I should be on a long term med and backup. I just pray that when I see the doc today he doesn't just think I abused the drugs and now looking for more .i am not ,he told me I had a choice of pills or surgery again and I would be dependent on the pills . Surgery is very dangerous for me due to other problems . Never did I think I would have these problems at this stage of my life. Clean in Kansas said I was pretending , what I meant by coincidence was that some times a higher power leads us to where we are supposed to be , that's all . I just pushed buttons and wound up here.  Thanks for listening

Honda, basically what  everyone is saying is you taking way too much and they never hear of a dr giving tht many in a day bc of the tylenol in it. also id you taking more tham what ur dr is telling you to take there is a problem. noone here will judge you bc we have ALL been there done thht. if you feel you need more to help with pain speak to ur dr and b up front and honest dont try to BS him bc he will see right thru it and look at it as you r only drug seeking. to b completely honest with you thts what seems like to me and probably many others here but i cant speak for them. if u decide you want help for ur addiction we r here for ufif your not ready to admit you have a problem then we r here when u r ready, good luck

And you know all this.....    No I don't know all this.   Iam subscribed 10 a day and find mysel needing 12 a day. I do see a problem here and it had been more than 4 months. All I wanted to do is get an idea what long acting meds are available since my tolerance is zip... That's all just asking a question. I would never go to a forum where I don't belong on purpose. So good luck to u too.

Hi honda
I just wanted to say if you want some help quitting, we are here for you.
I know, I have been where you are.  Very frustrated at my doctor for not prescribing me enough meds to take the pain away.  There are some non narcotic meds out there that you may want to talk with your doctor about as I am sure you have heard about in the pain management forum.

I am still trying different ones and hoping that I can find one that works.
I have gone off of all opiates and I would rather deal with the pain than living addicted.  My anti-depressant is working now.  I don't have to count pills, call dealers, feel guilty, I could go on and on.
Keep posting and let us know how you feel about it.

Well, you're back.....you've been posting in the pain mgmt community AND this community off and on since Aug 2012.  The pain mgmt community has already attempted to help you but since you are alway running out of pills early, counting your pills, upset w/pharamacies and diff staff members, etc.
you DEFINITELY have an addiction pattern going on here that the pain mgmt forum people don't relate to.  That's why they suggested this forum.
This forum suggested THAT forum.  And YOU KNOW all this!!! and are pretending you don't or that TODAY's post was a coincidence. (Calling you out here)
If you have a lockdown safe in your home that requires your wife's AND your thumbprint to open.......come on.......do you SEE this??

I started taking pain pills for legit pain, too.  GOBS of us on here did.
You are not unique in that.  Your pain seems worse and worse and the meds work less and less.  That's OUR experience, too.  If you decide you are an addict (and stop thinking of that word as low down and dirty) and simply a biological wiring that makes you diff from those in the pain mgmt forum who can take as prescribed and NEVER run out early your living hell can change.

This is a huge wake up call if YOU want to SEE it or HEAR it as such.
You are in the right forum IF you want help with your addiction.  If you can't even admit you HAVE a problem, then you aren't ready to post here either.  People that aren't addicted DON"T go thru all you've been going thru for the last 4 mos that you've been on and off this MH site.
I hope you'll realize that you are not alone in this and I too am in a lot of pain but know taking pain pills to control the pain is no longer an option.
It takes what it takes for each of us.  Don't mean to be harsh, but I recognize the BS cause I did it to myself.  I hear the very same thing in you.   I wouldn't know how to sugarcoat or pamper you if I tried.  It is what is is and some people just really aren't ready to get honest with themselves and that's something NO ONE can help us with.

Thankyou for replying and you are correct about that red flag . I see it too. As LeaAnn pointed out I posted in the wrong area but maybe not , they say there are no such things as coincidences.  Thank you both.

Hi....you might find more help with these questions over in the Pain Management part of Medhelp.  It's hard for addicts to tell you how to ask for drugs when we are trying to do the opposite in our lives!

I wish you the best.  Chronic pain stinks!  Hope you find relief! : )

The main thing is to go in and be honest. Trying to manipulate him will make you look like you are drug seeking.  All you can do and should do is express how your tolerence has built up and leave it up to the doctor to decide how to manage your medicine.

I don't know much about you but I'll say this.  You are always going to have pain.  Eventually you will have to learn to take your pills exactly as prescribed and cope with the residual pain.  Tolerance does build up over time but if you get into the pattern of taking more or asking for more you start sliding down a slippery slope that is hard to climb up again.

I am not judging you nor do I understand what it is like to be in chronic physical pain.  I am just an addict that became chemically dependent for emotional pain.  I just saw a red flag when I read your post and I am concerned for the way it is heading.  Anyway best wishes and good luck,

Larry
