Help me quit.

Hello my name is Brice. I'm addicted to Oxycodone.  I WANT TO QUIT, i am asking this community for help.
My plan. I plan to ween myself off, while using the Thomas recipe.
i currently use around 60-100 mg a day. and i want to get down to using none in a month.
Weening plan   ["week 1" 4,  7.5/325mg], ["week 2" 3 a day], ["week 3"  2 a day], ["week 4"  1 a day].
Please feel free to give any advise to help me with the weening process.

I plan to go out and get all the necessary "ingredients" tomorrow.

Please help me. Will my plan work?    All corrective criticism welcome.

i will be back on in the morning.

Hi well you made it threw your first day of tapering you did good now tomorrow you might start to feel it a bit...just move past this dont let it discourage you ....you can do this
its just going to take determination and perseverance remember what I said about yo yo ing you dose once you drop dont go up the next day because you dont feel well
tapering reduces the final withdrawal but it also spreads out the withdrawal over a loger period you will notice withdrawal symptoms as you taper thats normal for tapering
just take your time...this is a race one by the tortus not the hare if done properly
the withdrawals can be managed ...there is no way of doing this without some discomfort but you can minimize it ..keep posting with your progress and will do all we can to encourage you to stay on track...good luck and God bless......Gnarly

u have a plan brice!  and that is good...if u find u r not following ur taper then u need to re-evaluate....even if u cheat do not beat urself up...exercise all u can to increase endorphins..u may need them  (:
what is ur QUIT DAY?   whatever it is the pills go whether u followed ur taper or not...cut off all refills and all connections to get those puppies...flushing what u do not need for ur taper if u can...if u can not...u again may need to re-evaluate ur plan
I tried NA...went for a mth or so and ended up in an AA group just cos i felt more at home...both r similar and both follow the 12 steps..both r real live support and it is important to long term recovery
ur dose is do-able and i am glad u r doing it now vs a 30 pill a day habit....if u want this u can have it brice...keep us posted...

well guys its the end of day 1, and i have only had 30mg since i got up at 11:30am. i did not have my first dose until 3:00pm and i spread it out through 10:30, i am not feeling any wd yet. i plan to do no more then 30mg tomorrow. then 25mg the next day.

I told my parents about my addiction today, they where very supportive. my mom went out with me to get everything i need for the Thomas recipe. i will start taking my supplements tomorrow. and i plan to hold off on the benzos for a few days "i dont want to form a new habbit, and i wont take them until i need them". my mom helped me is going to introduce me to a friend of hers that has been through this before, and she if recommending an AA. he says AA is more "hard core" then NA. I am not sure about this, and i can use all of your opinions on which one i should use.

Thank you all for your support and help!

Glad to see you are hanging in there.

A few other things to remember: Do not dose any other way than swallowing. Spread out your dose over the period alloted so you are not taking more than one pill at a time. If you do that, it will "spike" your dose and the taper is much harder to do.

Hang in there and let us know how you are. Be good to yourself!

HI Brice just wanted to let you know that tapering can work out I was stuck on methadone for 6 1/2yrs and was at a high dose 150ml the taper I had to do was a long drown out affair
it took me 8 1/2mo to break free from the stuff and I did it fast compared to most...I just wanted to encourage you if I could live thew it for months you can do it for a month or so
my advise is write it down and stick to it....you cant yo yo your dose if you drop doses just push past the withdrawals.. they will go away in a few days if your dosing at 30ml you cant take 40 the next day because your not feeling well give it a few days and the withdrawals will subside then you can move down again..let you body be the final judge in when to taper if your in withdrawals let it go for a day or 2 but stick to your taper best you can...I found 3 days between dropping doses seam to work best again sometimes it took longer but for the most part it worked out...good luck to you and God bless I wish you all of the success in the world......Gnarly

You have been given good advice from the above posters.  All i can add is PLEASE get into some type of recovery program.  There are many out there.  NA/AA, therapist, minister. out patient treatment etc.  Check into what you will be comfortable with.  Using is just a symptom of what is going on inside of us.  You deserve to live a life free from drugs.......sara

Hey welcome to the forum! I'm glad you have decided to quit. That being said..

Have you given any thought to trying to quit cold turkey? While some people go through horrible withdrawls that last over a week, some of us had a much easier time with it. I was only in physical discomfort for about 3 days and I was doing upwards of 400mg/day of oxy at the end of my active addiction. I just followed the suggestions of the Thomas Recipe, got plenty of excersize and ate good meals (even when I wasn't feeling like it), and got some melatonin (found at GNC) to help me sleep. This way, I wasn't feeling uncomfortable for weeks having to ween myself off of drugs and didn't face the temptation of spiking my doses.

You might wanna check into a few meetings around town, AA or NA, both are accepting of addicts of any kind. As long as you have the desire to stop using, they will teach you how they did it. You can find success stories on medhelp, there are a few of us with more than a year of sobriety (myself included as of two days ago! =) but in AA or NA you can find people with long term sobriety who will sit down and talk with you in person about how to quit, give you their phone #'s to call when times are getting rough, etc.

I wish you all the success in the world, no matter what you do, keep fighting the good fight!

It all starts with a plan, day 7 for me today, I have cut back, and will get to c/t, after being on this forum for past week, the advice here is great, the one thing I thought I would never do is seek aftercare, (too embarassed, ashamed etc) I have never been a person to ask for help, well today is day where I reach out to a proffesional to help me. Nervous but, I KNOW i have to do this, I want this so bad, I will do anything. My thoughts on tapering are this, you have to decrease 1/2 for the1st week. It will be HELL...get prepared, start vitamins, you are going to feel it..stay on a set time, try and keep dosage far apart, again this is only my experience...you know the rituals that we all have/do prior to taking tabs, CHANGE that... you are not takng tehm to get high, taking to help w/ds, you have to be very committed to this,,, SELF CONTROL...Dont let anything stand in your way... Yesterday, hardest Mental day yet, I used to run for a tab or 6 when in a uncomfortable situation, what a test yesterday was,,, I did not cave to the feelings, it was during that time yesterday that I decided to seek outside help, we all will need help to beat this... i want it SO BAD... Wishing you the best of luck, try & get moving as soon as possible,,,, write down your plan & do not change it...YOU CAN DO THIS...I CAN DO THIS...Good luck ....Keep reading ,,,,Keep posting...Thank you to everyone on here for your help.....

Hi!  I tried to taper a few times.  It NEVER worked.  If I would have been determined to taper, I would have had to give the pills to someone else.  I'm not saying that it's not possible to do it alone, but it never worked for me.  The Thomas Recipe has some great supplements in it that will make you feel somewhat better.  There will still be some WDs after you taper.  It's inevitable.  Just hang in there.  Drink water, juice and gatorade.  Use a heating pad and hot baths with epsom salt.  I would get some immodium while you are at the store.  (you know why, I'm sure!)  Advil and tylenol.  If you have restlessness, you can get some Hylands Leg Cramps or Restful Legs.  It helps a lot and is over the counter.

Keep posting here too.  It'll make you feel better to talk to people who have been there!!!

IBKleen is right on the money, having aftercare in place now and someone else to hold your pills are the two ways to set yourself up for success. I tried tapering and although some have the willpower to do this, i just could not stick to it. Aftercare can mean the difference between long term sobreity and relapse, just another thing I found out the hard way. I jumped from full blown addiction at 100 mgs a day and although I got through the worst withdrawls you can imagine, the mental part is what got me. I white knuckled it for awhile and although I did go to a few meetings it wasn't anywhere near what I should have been doing. Sure enough I relapsed. Learn from others mistakes and do the things now to avoid going down that road. Aftercare, whether it be a therapist, NA meetings whatever you are comfortable with is essential to your recovery. Also cut off all forms of getting more pills whether that mean cancelling any further refills after you quit, losing your dealers number and having them lose yours. You CAN do this but it will take some work and you can find yourself free from this addiction like many other people have on here. And post away, people here are very supportive and can help you every step of the way.

Sounds gr8. But as the others have said it is tough to taper yourself. I wish you the best of luck and if you can take a couple of weeks off dont be scared to jump off once you start feeling wds. How long have you been on them??

Hi Brice and Welcome!

Tapering is a tough task for us addicts and few succeed alone. Do you have someone who can hold your pills and dose them to you according to the schedule? If so it will remove the temptation to take more when you begin dropping and feeling the withdrawals.

The Thomas Recipe is great---good supplements. Also, take hot baths to relieve the muscle aches. Be certain to stay hydrated and try and eat even if it is only soup and toast. Keep yourself as healthy as you can thru this phase.

Do you have any plans for aftercare?

Having a plan you are already ahead of the game.  Theres no reason this plan wont work if you stick to it.  Be prepared for some discomfort.
When youre determined to quit...you just will!
Good Luck!
