fentenyl patch I cut in half will it work

I am scared I cut my 100 mcg/hr patch in half as last night I put it on and feel horrible, so tore it off, called on call doc, he was not an expert and said to ask pharmacy, who did not advise this, though I need to have something, and since mylan brand and back to my normal 50 thought it will be okay, but still feel very odd, or not enough relief.

what should I do?
I do have the 200 mcg/ citrate succers on hand.

I cannot advise you especially if an m.d. who was not an expert would not do so. However, I have used fent patches and I know that one of the dangers is rapid absorption when your skin is contact with unregulated gel from within the patch. And that is a definite risk when you cut, pierce, or alter the patch. Odd as this may sound you may be absorbing too rapidly and be confusing what you are feeling with withdrawl when in fact it may be toxicity due to rapid absorption. I did what you did one time and I encountered the problem of toxicity due to rapid absorption. I felt wierd at first or "odd" as you put it, and then I got kind of disoriented and a little nauseated. I got online and figured what was probably happening so I took that patch off (100mcg) and once I was feeling better I put on two 25mcg patches which is what I should have done to begin with. This is not something that you would want to delay action on for too long if  the situation is indeed rapid absorption.
In fact, there have been fatalities from people falling asleep with heating pads turned on which were lying against duragesic patches. These patches were not even cut or altered in any way. The heat from the heating pad accelerated the absorption rate of the fentenyl to a lethal level causing respiratory failure and they never awoke.
I would call the 800 number on the insert leaflet and tell them the situation. Also, I would call an addiction center or recovery center and ask them what they know about this, and also let a person who you trust know of the situation in the event that you need help and are physically unable to explain what happened.

I don’t not believe are supposed to cut the fentenyl patch; you will lose a lot of the medicine, as it all in that patch...... Good luck
