Every addict on the forum knows that we look for any excuse to use. Physical pain is the most popular but a loved one thats sick or dieing to a loved one being born and everything in between has been used as an excuse to use. Telling an addict trying to get clean and looking for ANY excuse to use that relapse IS a part of recovery gives them a free pass so to speak,,"hey, relapse is a part of recovery so I can and its just part of the process". Relapse isnt something to be ashamed of or a reason to quit trying but it is a setback. A Dr wouldnt tell a pataint whos disease was in remission that it WOULD come back,,the Dr would say it CAN come back letting you know it could but not saying it WILL. I know this sounds like a small thing but even smaller things have led an addict to use. Also I know many people with multi years clean , 20 30 and more who havent relapsed. gl to all though,,those that have (like myself) and those that havent.
yes...gabapentin is nuerontin...it is a safe drug...(like most drugs that are non-narcotic..it is easy to get online but illegal) lyrica has come out as kinda like the "new" nuerontin but addictions are being reported due to lyrica and nuerontin did not cause that problem...my pain mgt doctor would not give it to me when i asked...i am on nuerontin and he told me it would be safer to stay on it...he has had some patients abuse and get addicted to the lyrica
Jolly....i have chronic pain as well...the pain the pills caused me mentally outweighed my back pain and i do believe it even was making it worse...narcs were not intended for long term use and perhaps ur doctor can help u find an alternative for the pain..I hurt no more now than i did on the pills...if i could have kept my use to as needed like when i was in really bad pain..i would have kept taking them..but i could not and my tolerence was going out the roof...it is a decision u need to make within yourself...ofcourse, anyone on here has had a rough time with narcs so not many will say..."keep using"..keep posting
is gabapentin prescription? my sister has some sort of neuropathy. i think the dr. called it alcohol neuropathy. damage cause by way too much drinking. she can't feel, its like her hands and feet are numb. i never really understood it.
Jolly;
I have the same condition. If you haven't already tried it, Gabapentin works fairly well for nerve damaged conditions. Non narcotic.

Hi There,
It's okay. I failed several times, but the longest I went for was only 6 days before giving in. When I finally stuck to it, I endured lots of pain for almost 3 weeks.
I have nueropthy also, beside other pain issues.
Jolly, listen...........the level of pain will decrease........or should. But you have to give it more time. It's part of the detox to hurt so bad. We think it's because we're not using the pain meds anymore and that is how much pain we really have.
The brain sure can play tricks!
Glad you wrote. Don't beat yourself up! You'll be fine.
Yup thats definately rioght relapse is part of recovery, it so strange how even though we know how sh*tty WD are we are willing to subject our selves to it again and again, these drugs are stron, but you can be stronger hang in there you will be just fine.
Relapse is not a part of recovery,its something that can happen during recovery but if you took meds for pain as the scrip said then you didnt relapse anyway. Either way though like everyone says ,,dont beat yourself up,,gl
Think good thoughts like the fact you came back and so that says a LOT!! Start again and I also suggest talking to your Dr. about non-narcotic medication for your pain. Wishing you all the best!
hey keep at it...............and try not to beat yourself up. "C"
That's all you can do. It happens. You can't beat yourself up for it. You just start over again. Maybe you can try to figure out a different way to manage the pain. But don't give up!! Relapse is a part of recovery. You can do this.
