suboxone

Has anyone had experience getting off of vicodine with suboxone?  I take a lot of vicodin and just can't seem to taper.  I called a doctor about using suboxone and it is kind of expensive but it is worth it and much cheaper than my addiction.  I'd like to know what to expect

Thanks everyone.  My appt. went surprisingly well yesterday. I had very mild withdrawals, nothing like I expected.  He gave me a sub pill at about 10:30am (I gave my self a high dose of vicodin the evening before) and I experienced slight discomfort so he gave me a total of 3 more (4 altogether) throughout the day.  I was able to watch a movie in his office and even tood a nap.  He was a very kind and compassionate doctor.  I was overwhelmed at how helpful and accepting he was. I pretty much kept my addiction as a secret and to tell someone who isn't judging and is actually helping me make it through it a huge relief. I only take 2 today, so I am a little worried and because of the high dose of vikes I had been taking, the dr. told me I could go into worse withdrawals today, so we will see.  So far things have been definately manageable.  I couldn't imagine life without cravings, but i am not craving vicodin.  Even at my highest state, I wouldn't be satisfied and would crave more, so that in itself is amazing.  Well, I am off to take my first dose.

I was  shooting up 30mg Roxi's up to 6 or more a day everyday. I started Suboxone in Feb and almost 5 months later I feel really good! I didn't like that it made me really really really sleepy for the first month or so. Best choice I have made in a very long time! If ya got the money to waste on your DOC then you should have it to use for Suboxone to get your life back! My best wishes to you!

Just checking to see how you made out today. Anything? Let me know. No matter what we in recovery are not here to judge. Just to support. I wanted to see how you made out at the doctor.

Don't take the Suboxone if you took Vics last night. You will go into what is called "precipitated withdrawal" which is full blown wd's right off the bat and nothing can help change it at that point. At least change your appointment until you are really in wd's. You are defeating the whole purpose of the Subs... the amount you are taking is a lot. Can you consider a rehab for a few days?

Thanks for your posts.  Good luck cloud. I am proud of you for mustering up the courage to fight this battle.  I did it a few years ago myself and felt so much better on the other side.  I was in a bad car accident, lost my job and broke up with my boyfriend after 10 years within a month.  I was prescribed vikes for my broken leg (had surgery) and relapsed.  I am now taking so many that I just don't see an end without serious intervention.  I made an apt. for tomorrow at 845 am to get my first suboxone dose.  I am very nervous because i know that they put you in an intensified withdrawal.  Is that right suboxone experienced people?  I wasn't supposed to take any vicodin after 1, but did at 6.  I think that means i am going to have major symptoms tomorrow, so I am quite nervous, but just want to get it started.  I will be reading and posting on this forum to discuss my progress.  I wasn't (and still am not) sure that suboxone is the right choice, but I have been telling myself that I would wean for months and if anything have increased my dose.

Hey,

I have only started my detox today at noon. My last one was yesterday at noon so as i can figure i have not had one for at least the day. But it is hard I know it is. I don't think i've done as many as you maybe i have i lost count sometimes. But it is all about will power. I have three kids they all look up to me but yet know nothing. They are innocent little minds that crave answers to questions that i can't answer because I feel so guilty you know? Well if you need someone to talk to i will be here cleaning out my body and telling everyone what hell i'm going through

Took oxy for 3 years.  Subs for 3 after that.  I hate subs, and would never advise anybody to try them without first doing much due diligence.  To be fair, the subs helped me bridge the constant search for pills.  Who's go them, how many will i need, how many do I want, etc.  Kept me sor of focused and again helped me break some hard habits.  However, I have detoxed from oxys and it is harder but shorter.  Think of pulling off a band aid.  Quick is better than slow, or even walking slowly into a cold pool.  Usually it is better to just jump in (cold turkey) versus an easier but much longer detox period.  Suboxone withdrawals can really last up to 90 days.  Today isday 32 for me, and things are okay, but I lose my temper much faster and still can't sleep that much.  Dealing with bouts of anxiety too.  Mental is easier than physical but SO much longer.  Good luck bro.  I would suggest cold turkey.

Wow. Thanks for all the posts.  I am taking very high doses of vicodin. At least 15 norcos a day, sometimes more.  I got off of them a few years back but then I was only taking about 5 or 6 a day and that was rough.  When I try to taper, I just get really discouraged bc I start having w/d at even 12 a day.  I then will just give in and take even more than I can believe.  I have gotten very out of control and am scared, so I got desperate and called about suboxone.  I thought maybe I would try rehab.  I just can't seem to find the will-power.  I guess there is no quick fix.  Being that I am in such a whirlwind of addiction and can't seem to taper, is suboxone worth it?  You guys are awesome.  Thanks for all your support.

Don't do it. Suboxone is the devil. Ask your doc about the Thomas Recipe (possibly in conjunction with a taper method) but please don't get yourself hooked on the Suboxone- It's even harder to get off of than the vicodin. Good luck!

Be safe with sub..as mentioned..less is better..not much and not for long or u will have another drug to taper from....tapering is hard for addicts.
Sub is a powerful narcotic...but addicting as well...There is no easy way to stop for most..it is hard work and the mental aspect can be much tougher than the physuical.  Be sure u include aftercare and keep us posted
what was ur daily dose?

Hi!! I was addicted to all pain pills!! And 2 yrs ago I satrted on methadone and was on it for almost 2 yrs!! I switched to suboxone and 1 week later I started tappering from the sub right away. 3 months later I was off the sub...( I've been off of it for 10 days now) I didn't experience ne wds at all . Except for a lil tired and weak. But that only lasted for 4 days. I could still sleep and work. It's different for everyone. I was one of the lucky ones!  So good luck!!! If u have nemore qs just message me.

Hi. I tapered off with Suboxone three years ago and finally just got off of it. I found the Suboxone itself incredibly difficult to get off. If you go this route, do not let the doctor convince you that you need to be on the maximum dosage or that you need to be on it for more than a month. It did help me get off Vicodin with ease but getting off it was awful in my experience. Doctors will tell you otherwise in my experience also.

Have a friend or family member hold your meds and do a taper. Sub is a very high powered drug which can cause 10 fold wd's should you get into that realm..And from what I've seen here by some that speak of it, had they known what it could do when they substituted, they would have never gone near it. Most of the info I've seen about it as well is its used for extreme cases with very hard drugs such as heroin or Methodone..If you do a controlled taper over a few weeks, I believe you will find the wd's are not as bad as you fear they will be, One fellow just successfully did a much faster taper than what I described and had minimal wd's..Whats "alot" of vicodin..How many pills on average?
