Allergies and blood in sputum

Everytime I brush my teeth and I attempt to cough up the mucus, the mucus comes combined with blood. I have had a mild cough for a few days, however, I did just remembered earlier that my right lymph under the jaw was swollen a few weeks ago, but towards the night it would digress, this happened for a few days, and I am uncertain if that has any correlation to the blood in the sputum. From the information I have gathered there seems to be the possiblity of allergies at best and some sort of lung illness at worst.

I would like to ask if anyone has experienced this, has an idea/opinion I may look into, or has ANY information that will let me know whether to worry or not. Thank you!

Hi, welcome to the forum, blood in sputum is called hemoptysis. These symptoms strongly suggest that you may be having acute sore throat infection. In such cases tiny tinge of blood in sputum is common. Some other possibilities are polyps, broncheictesis, lung cancer, gastrointestinal bleeding etc.

Firstly you need to start a course of broad spectrum antibiotic as an empirical therapy if infection is suspected. Send blood or throat swab for culture and antibiotic sensitivity, bronchoscopy with alveolar washing. Need to do antiseptic mouth gargle to take care of source of infection. I suggest you to consult a physician for evaluation and prescription of above said drugs. Take care and regards.
