Allergy or intolerance to cheese?

by Kristen753, Aug 06, 2009 01:22PM
My partner loves to eat brie and other cheeses but it seems like every night he does, he has a fit of coughing and lung-clearing all night. Could coughing be a symptom of a cheese allergy?  Is there anything he could do to avoid this reaction, such as taking Lactaid or some such product for lactose-intolerance?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Yes, coughing can be an allergic reaction to some component of the cheese. It may not be just due to it being a milk product. Your friend would need to take a food allergy test to know what he is allergic to. Its best to avoid things one is allergic to, as the reaction to an allergen can vary from mild to dangerous.
Please discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
