Breathing Spasms

I have constant runny nose, spasmic like breathing when laying down, asthma, allergies and need to clear my voice a lot and cough quite a bit especially at bedtime.  It gets worse during allergy seasons and when I'm sick with cold or flu.  This has been going on for years and years.  Would love to know what this is and how to deal with it.

Hi, it typically suggests allergic rhinitis with bronchial asthma which is exaggerated or precipitated during cold season or timing.

The triggering factors like dust, fog, pollens etc. can cause the precipitation of these symptoms. From your history it is clear that you are allergic to dust.

A careful nasal examination, Allergen-specific testing includes Skin testing, Serum tests for allergy, Allergen challenge and as well as Evaluation for concurrent conditions like Sinusitis and Asthma (pulmonary function tests) is necessary and it directs further steps for management.

You need to avoid the exposure by covering nose with a cloth, whenever you are exposed to dust.

A trial of inhalational bronchodilators (salmeterol or formoterol against prescription) will help to relieve bedtime symptoms. I suggest you to consult physician for further management. Take care and regards.
