Itchy red bumps in different shapes

by pvb, Mar 28, 2009 06:30AM
Hi,

From past 3 months i am having this itching problem. I get red bumps of different shapes all over my body which is very itching and last for few minutes and starts again at a different location. I am taking cetzine to stop this itching problem. But it again starts after few days.

Can any one help me out to diagnose this problem.

Thanks.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
This looks like urticaria or hives. Such outbreaks are generally viral or allergic in nature. Urticaria is usually triggered by allergens, such as drugs, foods, insect bites, inhaled substances, in response to sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Since you experienced an itch, just go over these possibilities in your mind. Something may strike you. In many cases, hives clear up themselves and don’t require diagnosis or treatment. However if they persists you may need to see a specialist called an allergist to determine what is causing the reaction. You would need to get an allergy test done, either a skin test or RAST, to know what you are allergic to. Seasonal allergies are generally due to pollen or dust.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
