SMELL ALLERGIES

by raks721, Jul 10, 2009 02:45AM

Hi

I am from Mumbai India, male 40 yrs and suffering from this problem for minimum 8 to 10 years I  am EXTREMELLY sensitive to smell good or bad .i can smell my own  perspiration and I can't go near paint, perfume, laundry detergent, pollens, or even regualr soap. One small exposure and my eyes, neck, head and shoulders start aching and throbbing like anything . i avoid taking any medication but the moment i get a chance sometimes after suffering for 4 to 7 hours, i have a bath and which relives my pain to a certain extent.

My query is there a solution to end the problem i mentioned, I CANT STOP BREATHING

What you're describing is something I can relate to, since I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS).  I use natural cleaning recipes that I've found on a website called Care2.  The writer who has contributed the majority of these recipes has the same issue that you're describing.  She also explains the science behind why these cleaning recipes work.  Removing all the manmade chemicals from my home and personal space as much as possible has made a world of difference to me.  I have some issues with some natural things, such as rubber/latex and some of the essential oils, such as lavender oil, so I know what you mean.  I use unscented and natural products as much as I possibly can for house cleaning and personal care products.

Like you, I am also sensitive to taking medications.  For the bath, I either use plain water or I'll add baking soda or epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) to help with natural detoxing.  Another thing that helps is sinus washing using a netti pot, which is simply using a saline wash that is a mixture of baking soda and sea salt.  The mixture of baking soda and sea salt is meant to be more pH balanced and matching the pH of the human body.

One thing that I have found that really helps when I have to go outside of my home is wearing a filtration mask that is meant for problems such as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS).  I saw a lady wearing the mask one day and I knew what it was for, so I asked her where she got it.  The name of the website is ICANBREATHE.  Here is the correct page:  http://icanbreathe.com/store/honeycomb1.html  I use two filters inside of my mask, which works best for me.  I have serious smell allergies like you're describing and I use public transportation, and this mask has made riding public transportation a lot more bearable.  So many people wear perfumes, scented deodorants, hair sprays and other scented personal care products and don't realize that they're making some of us quite ill when they use these products--even if they only use a light amount of scented products.  Most people don't know that these products all contain neuro-toxins that make some of us quite ill.  This filtration mask has made a world of difference.  I don't care if I get funny looks or if people wonder if I'm wearing it out of fear of Swine Flu, because wearing it keeps me from feeling so ill all the time.
