severe nasal dripping

by queenso, Feb 11, 2009 09:23AM
I have a clear watery substance (not mucus-like at all) that drips from my right nostril only. It fills the cavity right above my nostril and if I tip my head back it will pour down my throat, tip my head forward it will run out my nostril. Then it'll fill up again within a few minutes. It feels like I went under water and got water up my nose. I dont really have any other symptoms with it other than mild headaches. I have been taking Singulair (10mg) once/day for a year now, yet still I've contracted this condition. I've had it for two months now and during that time I've been to my allergist who put me on two different antihistamine nasal sprays, which seemed to work somewhat for the first month, but as the drip got worse, now has no affect. I then had a CT scan done and no infection was found. Next my allergist put me on a week of steroids with no results.  Now Im on to yet another nasal spray (Patanase, 2sprays 2X daily in each nostral) and so far this is not working either.  My allergist is not sure of what we need to try next.  I have yet to come across anyone who has experienced these same symptoms, but I can not believe I am the only one. Please respond if you know of anything like this.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
It is difficult to comment without examination. What is important is you must find out what is causing this allergy. Common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, cosmetics or drugs. You must get an allergy test done, either a skin test or by RAST, to know what you are allergic to. Seasonal allergies are generally due to pollen or dust. Any cosmetic you apply on face or eye or even for your hair like shampoos or dyes too can cause allergies. Over the counter antihistamines, decongestants, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs all help. However in your case since you are not improving, you must find the reason for the allergy.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
