Methotrexate Therapy, Prednisone & Surgery

I am a rheumatoid arthritis patient on 10 mg. Methotrexate per week and 5 mg. Prednisone daily and will be having surgery in two weeks (lap band).  There is a differing of opinions on whether I need to stop these medications now or whether I will be okay to take them.  My rheumatoid specialist discussed the possibility of giving me a Prednisone injection that would cover me for a month or so until I could take medication again?  What is your opinion regarding these meds and surgery?

Hi Gracie,

Everything I have read and been told indicates you should stop taking MTX before surgery.  I suggest you follow the advice of both of your doctors regarding this decision.  Good luck!
