ana posotive

i tested posotive with an ana of 2.67 i have not seen anyone on here talk about an ana this high.the skin on my arms feel a little burny or itchy and i have joint pain with no swelling,but have had joint pain from numerous physical injuries growing up playing sports.i have an appointment with a rheumotologist in one month.what does such a high ana suggest?with it being so high does this mean something is deffinately wrong or strongly suggest lupus or some kind of cancer?

I think you have received erroneous info about your ANA....it ranges in multiples of 40 and doubles each time such as 1:40, 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280, etc....my ANA for my "undifferentiated arthritis" is 1:640, which my rheumy considers to be highly positive - a sign that, combined with my arthritis of the fingers, hands, and wrists, indicates I have some sort of systemic, chronic, autoimmune connective tissue disease, which my current rheumy thinks is likely seronegative RA or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus....only time will tell what it turns out to be (have had it about a year and 3 months)...the most important thing, in my opinion, is to find a rheumy who will treat your symptoms so that you will feel better and, in the case that it turns out to be RA, avoid any joint damage...I am fortunate that my former & current rheumies are taking my "undifferentiated arthritis" seriously and have found major pain & stiffness relief from the combo of meds I'm currently taking, including prednisone, imuran, plaquenil, humira, and celebrex....we are tapering the prednisone down so I hopeto be off that entirely by Dec...good luck with your rheumy appointment...it will take time & patience to find the best combo of meds that work for you...and in my case to hopefully get a more definitive diagnosis some day!  Hang in there!!!
