I am 48 yrs old and have history of allergies since last 20 years, my mother also had severe skin allergies and asthma as long as I can remember. 3 years ago I got a bad asthma attack in spring which lasted 2-3 month, next year again in spring I got a mild attack of asthma. This year I moved from CA to Washington and experience severe asthma attack since May/09, my symptoms includes bad night time coughing, shortness of breathBreath alcohol test Breath holding spell Breath odor when I do littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys bit of physical activity. Doctor gave me advare and singulair since 2-3 weeks, my asthma is somewhat managed but occasionally I get coughing especially when I speak, at night, and shortness of breathBreath alcohol test Breath holding spell Breath odor doing physical activity. My question, can people get asthma in their later age like 40s...or 50s?
Also, when I got put on advair (for allergy induced asthma) it took close to 4 months for the advair to fully kick in and settle down my lungs.
The best way to find out is doing pulmonary function tests that determine you lung volume and how fast you can blow.
