No AD's because of ECG???

most of you are familiar with my 38 yr old sons BP crash in June....
He finally leveled off in Aug....but only for a short while and the last 3 weeks or so has slumped down into a very deep depression again.
he saw his pdoc again t'day he just upped his seroquel now at a pretty high dose
He said he cannot put him on any AD's until after he had an abnormal ECG and is going for 'stress testing'
does anyone know WHY he cannot be on AD's before taking further heart related tests??

i read about lovaza, which IL talked about, i found it an omega-3 supplement. My family takes fish oil, it's cheaply sold over here 20 pills of 1000mg each costs 2 dollars. my father who is very concerned about his health takes 3/day. I know omega3 is very useful in fact i recommend it to my friends from arthritis to hair loss, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol of course so very good for coronaries. here what i found for heart in lovaza:

Cardiovascular System: Arrhythmia, bypass surgery, cardiac arrest, hyperlipemia, hypertension, migraine, myocardial infarct, myocardial ischemia, occlusion, peripheral vascular.

So i guess what you want. however as an MS people question that although it's considered an MS but very weak. You need at least 6gm and even with that.

As for arhythmia as i told you before, i am sure i read it somewhere that olive oil is effective and also we use it all the time now. Also but don't laugh: onion and especially garlic. However like the English say: you don't do many friends. But who cares about them if it improves my health. Of course if you are going to a party don't take them, but while staying at home is OK.

no he's sure NOT paranoid abt his health!!
if anything he neglects his health and things that need to be looked after, mom here has to push.
the heart alert was just picked up on a random ECG that his psych sent him for.
yes other than being BP he is very healthy....has lifted weights for abt 15 yrs he is a big strong boy!
just really needs an antidepressant with the seroquel and the psych won't prescribed it until after the stress test.
ILad...interesting info on Lovoza...wouldn't that be a bonus to get a MS that also has health benefits!!

i had a stress test done. it's a plaything and don't you worry. he is under 40 so no problem unless he really has a heart problem. moreover while he does it there is a monitor and a heart doctor beside him so once he watches a change in his ECG he stops it, so it's safe.

My father went through all this until he did an angiography and they discovered he has what is called a bridge it's an anomaly 10% in adults where the LAD is surmounted by a muscle so it gives ischemia in the coronary and a strange ECG while there is nothing really dangerous.

you said he goes to oil fields so he is healthy but BECAUSE he is BP he feels he has all sorts of disease and relates himself to any symptom he reads about, that's BP

Actually concentrated fish oil supplements are not only healthy they have a mood stabilization effect as adjuncts. I know not just from reading this but from being allowed to take them in the past in this regards. Olive oil doesn't have the same effect and cod liver oil in amounts to work in this regard is unsafe. Fish oil or flaxseed oil work but best to get the concentrate of the fatty acids in fish oil. As an actual medication that can be used if a psychiatrist approves it and as I've posted the FDA approved anti-cholesterol medication Lovaza which was developed from fish oil is in fact in experimental use as a mood stabilizer.

ha ha we are in 'central' Canada and therefore have no more access to native fresh salmon than any other country!!
I do know of the benefits of olive oil and use it whenever I can, i wish he would also take more supplements.
Yes he does have tacchycardia always and I agree thats why the holter test.
They have also found low O2 in his heart and thats why the 'stress test'...low O2 could mean heart disease..
I am a worrier
have a good day.

sometimes since he is already psych then he must have a pounding heart often, also what they call arythmia or tacchycardia. they test this by a holter for 24 hrs. all this i passed through. sometimes beta blockers are useful like concor. what is very good for tacchycardia is olive oil it helps a lot and makes it disappear. people having tacchycardia are called highly strung. don't worry

people who live in the hymalia (jumba lumba) they eat yogourt only and live over 100, it has been discovered the that greek people also live longer because their diet is mostly olive. in italy they put olive oil as a dressing to everything. there is oil fish - oil omega3 and linseed oil same very good for cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, even prevents cancer (no joking a german doctor used to cure it with). further, for depression very good. Canada is rich with salmon very very rich with omega3. doctors say up to 6 gm for depression. Believe me it helps but over a long period.

Hell I had heart issues on Geodon and my heart was supposedly just fine.  I know it's not an antidepressant but it's still a psych med.

thanks both for the reply's...I looked up the website, I had no idea that AD's affected HR.
there is something not right with his heart and they didn't tell him what exactly..thus he is being booked for additional 'stress testing' on his heart...following the stress testing he will have to wear a heart monitor for 24hrs.....just something else to worry over!
I think depending on the outcome of these 'stress tests'  the pdoc will put him on an AD....after the test is done
such a catch 22...his mania has come way down...but tooooo down, he is so low even his voice is like slow motion.
neither the high's or the low's are a good place to be in.

Morning

it's said that antidepressants can affect a person's blood pressure and heart rate. Also for major depression on heart rate variability (HRV) even in medically well individuals. ECT apparently has same effect. Here is what i found;
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=2478652

Incidentally, my bipolarity although it's type 1, yet i suffer from major depression. I posted several times on the fact that if they can discover an AD which lifts depression then BP is "cured" because you are not driven manic under it so you break the cycle of BP which is the crucial thing.

In my case, after trying all sorts of SSRI (even buropion=welbutrin does the same), i ended with stablon. I am not trying to promote it, only that in 3 years for the 1st time i am almost stable for 2 continuous months, which is a big success for me, and i work. this med is an SSRE i.e. enhances rather inhibits seretonin, so apparently its function is unknown, and on the web, hardly you can find anything on its relationship with mania, except one poor letter addressed from a European to an old doctor there, the latter told her, stablon is the only AD which doesn't provoke mania, this of course i am not certain about it. in my case it worked so far. usually pts from english speaking countries buy it online because it isn't sold in their countries i.e. not spoken of, or you can say an unknown drug, why, i don't know. of course i am not recommending that people should try it especially that it can be a disappointment for them, i'm only reporting my case. it is only sold in europe

good luck

It would be that the medication can effect the heart as a side effect so they will want to see what his heart rate etc.. is when stressed before giving him medication that can have an effect on the heart I would assume but check with his doctor.
