Sudden new symptom-Help!

Hey all,
I know it has been a while but I have been through a lot lately. I recently broke up with my boyfriend of 5 years, have moved in with my sister , went back to work after being off for 4 months ( the 2nd time) and just finished up my pain management class. I have been swamped with work (commuting around 40-50 miles both ways) and drs appointment between physical therapy, drs and also general ltherapy so to say the least I have been dealing with a lot of stress and tension, grief and physical and emotional pain. to get to my point last night i was sleeping but i am trying a new medication called zanaflex. the prescription says to take either a 1/2 a tablet or a whole tablet. it is very powerful as far a sedation goes  so i took 1/4 of the tablet and that was ok for me. so i went to sleep. arounf 1:30 in the morning i woke up and the bed was wet! I realized I had lost control of my bladder in the middle of the night. I didnt lose full control cus i still had to go but i am so embarassed and it hasnt happened again today but dont know if it cus of the dream i was having cus i was dreaming i had to pee or the medication or cus i really lost control..... i have never had this happen before. any advice? should I tell my dr? my dr also on friday put me on restricted houirs down to 20 hours a week and if that cant be accomodate by my job to consider me disabled again and off till 1/22/11 does anyone know my rights with this for california? will the state supplement the rest of my income if they do accomodate the 20 hours a week?

I would say something to your doctor. My bladder numbness is controled enough but I fear every day that I am not going to know it and something may happen.   Anything may be a symptom or a side effect and your doctor should know.

And lizzy is right start by limiting drinking at bedtime and make sure you empty your bladder before going to sleep. I have resorted to wearing pads just in case as embareasing as that is the alternative would be worse.

Good luck and so sorry u are dealing with this

i do not agree with givenstrength at all.  maybe it is nothing...or maybe it could happen in a more embarrassing place next time.  you should let your dr know what happened and let him decide, as he is the professional.  aside from that, you while you are still taking that med, it might be a good idea not to have anything to drink within 3 hrs or so of when you go to bed.  that might also help.

I'm on tizanidine (zanaflex) and take 2 tablets at bedtime. I've never had that happen to me but everyone is different.  My personal opinion is it could possibly been from dreaming maybe. I would brush it off UNLESS it ever happens again if it does talk to your dr!!

Hi...if u have FMLA available to u at work...and u qualify....have time left after u used ne...u can take  it in hours....so the cut back in how many u can work can be considered FMLA time.

It all depends on if u have that time coming....also, if u can get a disability statement from ur dr, u may be able to qualify for ADA assistance in the workplace.....

Now-
What is tizanidine (Zanaflex)?
Tizanidine is a short-acting muscle relaxer. It works by blocking nerve impulses (pain sensations) that are sent to your brain.

Tizanidine is used to treat spasticity by temporarily relaxing muscle tone.

Tizanidine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

The side effects do not mention loss of bladder control, but reading what the meds r indented to do......well????

It could very well have been the med in my opinion...call ur dr and let him know about this.

Please keep us posted

hi devin...welcome back.  sorry to hear you're having all these problems!  you should most def. let your dr know asap....could be that the med he has you on is just too strong for you and you just couldn't wake up enough in time to make it to the bathroom.  but you don't want to just blow something like that off.  you need to let him know.
as for the disability, go to ssd.gov and click on your state.  you should find everything you need there.
hope this helps you some.
also hope you let us know how you make out and what the dr had to say!
