Nausea when I am upright

Lately this has been getting worse.  If I lay down it goes away, weird.   Wish that would happen with this headache.  When I went to TCI the doctor told me about pronex cervical traction device, anyone using this now?  The traction scares me, but he said it would relieve my headache when lying down.  I do need drugs to get thru the day, took compazine already as i have to go to work.  Will try not to take lortab, didn't take any on saturday or sunday but i did need it, just suffered through it with advil and tylenol.

I know we often say this but we should not have to live like this.  I would also appreciate thoughts on your experiences at pain management because i think that will be my next step if rheum doesn't help me, i see him next monday.

That's awful...I'm so sorry to hear this both about you and your Dad. BTW- I went through the same thing with my dad about 3 years ago so if you need any support or to talk about it feel free to PM me!! My dad has beat it and has been cancer free for awhile now so there's lots of hope!

Definitely put in that call to your NL..does this happen mainly when you stand up from lying or sitting? I am wondering if the nausea is triggered by a blood pressure drop when you rise? All of that kind of thing (respiration, blood pressure) is monitored by our brain stem and can be affected by Chiari. I know I've had severe blood pressure drops before and it is awful, I have never felt so sick in my life.

I hope things start to get better...

Have u talked to ur PCP about going to a urologist for urodynamics testing?

I have this issue too, and b4 surgery I would get the dizziness when I got up in the middle of the night...many times it was vertigo with me.....

Nausea, I still get from time to time.....and u r sooooo right, stress does not help.

Sending prayers out to ur Father.....

This happened again Monday night in the middle of the night, went to the bathroom and had to push the urine out, i'm having issues with that too like its difficult to empty my bladder, slow stream sometimes, ugh.  anyways the nausea was so awful, it comes with dizziness and the tingling in the tongue like i'm going to vomit, i went back to bed as fast as i could and it went away.  I have to call my neuro, but my week has been kind of crazy my dad was dx with highly aggressive bladder cancer monday (and we just lost my mom to stomach cancer last summer) ugh.  I had the nausea in middle of the night before monday so i know its not just related to stress, but stress doesn't help either.

Wow, I have been feeling dry heaves for a week now. Maybe this "cycle" is way worse than the first real flare up. Dang it!

Season changes as well as temp can have an effect on us......

I am also wondering....since u r having a motility issue were u checked for EDS?....in some new info I got I found that not only is our skin extra stretchy, but so is everything else...our intestines and they can expand and nothing moves like it should.

Just a thought.

I pray this is just weather related.

I went through a period of almost three months of getting sick walking outside early morning, dry heaves for most part; Im a guy - nope not pregnat sorry ladies lol;)   As well as after eating supper.  No warning no nothing just sick, sick, sick

Thing like that stopped - we did a gastro flow study and the food was staying in throat for an hour 38 minutes. then going about its way / end octomy showed just a hook in lower intestine.  things were great ...

Now this week at night I am starting to get the sick feeling before I go to bed again.  My head on the left side and the back of my left eye feels like someone is trying to push it out of its socket, my shoulder and back of my head is in lots of pain.  I wonder...  IS history going to repeat itself again???

Bending my neck like that makes me feel really dizzy and sick like that too! I actually even get this weird shaking feeling like my brain is buzzing... I have learned to sit in my recliner when I am reading and tip myself far enough back so I am looking straight ahead. It helps quite a bit...so if you don't have a recliner,  you need to get one!

Non Drowsy Dramamine...lol....otherwise u will be groggy.....

It is very helpful and I did use it as well......so unless u want to nap or have time to, u may want to get the non drowsy formula.

I have found that Dramamine can sometimes help with the vertigo and nausea. Case in point; today, I was feeling super spaced out and dizzy. I sat in my recliner and was looking down, playing on my iPhone. I think the position of my neck triggered it: I suddenly got intense vertigo and nausea. It was unbelievable. I had to push my almost 3 year old out of my lap cuz I was afraid I was going to puke on him. I called my husband to bring me a bowl QUICK! He did, plus a soda(sometimes helps, but made it worse this time). I was afraid to get up. The room was spinning so crazy. Hubby helped me to bed after he put Jordan in bed for his nap. He got me Dramamine. I took two, passed out for an hour, then woke up feeling a lot better. I'm sure the sleep helped a little, but I think the Dramamine is what really made the difference.

the rhm may be able to help you if you have fibro, ra or some other autoimmune disease, so i wouldn't be too quick to give up on that one just yet....took me a looong time to get my dx!

Hi...I too had nausea b4 surgery...but I had it lying down or standing up....most of mine was related to vertigo and reflux issues.

I have not had the traction, so I can not say how it works, but am interested to hear if/how it works if u should decide to move forward with it.

keep us posted : )

Hi

Before surgery, I do remember getting the nausea quite often. Usually, I got it on the days where I felt so spaced out, like I was walking on a cloud. I'm sure that it was b/c the pressure was higher in my head those days. I have never tried the cervical traction device, but it sounds like from what I hear, that it does really help.

Just a note on the Rheumy...please don't be disappointed if you don't get a lot out of it. I have had severe pain in my joints, spine, hips..you name it, but the Rheumy really didn't know what to make of me. I am exploring other options and if I find them helpful I will make sure I pass them on!

Good luck!

traction prior to surgery can be very helpful for some of us.  that was the only time i had any relief prior to my surgery!!  after surgery...no way!!!!  thought i was going to die and the nausea was instantaneous!!! as far as your meds go....if you need them, take them.  we suffer enough as it is.  there is no point in suffering needlessly!  if you cannot function on the meds you are currently on, ask you dr to try something else for you....there are enough options out there that you should be able to find a combination that works for you and doesn't make you loopy!  but seriously, when you have a dr that is willing to work with you, take the help that is being offered and be comfortable!  you know your body better than anyone and if you are worried about addiction issues, talk about it with your dr.  they usually keep a pretty close eye on you these days....
best of luck!
