Excessive crying, yelling, tantrums

Any suggestions to decrease excessive crying, yelling & tantrums for an 18 yr. old with multiple disabilities and functions on the level of a 2 - 3 year old?

I wonder if he could be plain old bored, I appreciate his difficulties and can imagine how tough it is for you both, just a little insite here, you know his limitations, is there any way to stimulate him more he must be very unhappy , how about music and noise ,can you read to him, you know even small babies like being sung to and even read to, it is the sound of the voice and stimulation, that helps them.As he functions like a 2-3 year old I would suggest you treat him like one, so games and fun, and sound and reading and people around him. Good Luck

Margypops has some good ideas. I would also advise as consistent of a schedule as you can manage and that you ignore the temper tantrums as much as it is safe to do so. With our young ones when they have tantrums we send them to their room. They hate that and usually just being told to go to their room will stop them immediately. When my son was two and would throw himself to the floor and wail and scream I would simply walk away. He hated that too. ;)

Perhaps, given your guy's probable size and strength, a good, strong, and most of all, safe, time out area might be a good idea. Maybe a small room with a mattress on the floor and padding on the walls where he can have his tantrum and not hurt himself or anyone else. Since children often have tantrums from too much stimulation, such a room might be calming just because it would be relatively stimulation free, too.

That's my best suggestion. I hope it helps.
