Rectal bleeding is never normal and should always be investigated.  Type in rectal bleeding to google/yahoo etc to learn of causes/symptoms/treatments.  As you will see, causes can be minor (haemorrhoids, anal fissure etc) right through to the more sinister diseases which tend to occur (i.e. colon cancer) at age ~40+.  I guess that you have posted this question on the colon cancer forum because this eventuality has entered your mind??

You must seek medical advice.  Hopefully the diagnosis will be one of the minor diseases - but do seek a definite diagnosis and insist on a colonoscopy if the doctor can only say "well it looks as if it might be....haemorrhoids etc").

One of my wife's uncles - aged 65+ - suffered rectal bleeding and didn't seek medical advice for what turned out to be fatal colon cancer.  The doctors said "if only you had come to see us sooner".  Don't let this happen to you - always assuming that you are age 40+.  If you are younger then you have less to worry about.

I don't live in the USA and I don't understand the implications of no medical insurance.  In my opinion it would be better to go to your emergency department when you have another bleeding episode rather than do nothing.
