BONE GRAFTING IN THE MAXILLA

BONE GRAFTING IN THE MAXILLA

I had a bilateral sinus lift and bone graft taken from my iliac crest september of 2008. It's been 21 months and I still have to find a dentist to do put the implant on the maxilla. I was told by the maxillofacial surgeon who did the bone graft that it's fine to wait even that long. WILL I LOSE THE BONE GRAFTED OR WILL IT MELT AWAY WHEN I WAITED THIS LONG?

I'm not sure.  I don't think that it will "melt" away anytime soon.  That's interesting how you can't find a dentist who does implants though.  Doesn't your oral surgeon do them?  You may want to contact your local dental society to find out which dentists in your area offer dental implants as a service.

If your surgeon say its fine, then most likely it'll be fine.  I understand it was quite an involved procedure so you obviously don't want to do it again.  Best thing to do is to find that implant doctor so they can evaluate you and get it started as soon as possible.
