Flipper after bone graft

I had a bridge "sectioned and removed" yesterday in order to do bone graft surgery for implant.  My question is this.  My periodontist put my flipper in right away and said to keep it in for 48 hours straight to minimize swelling.  However, it is uncomfortable (frankly hard to tell what is bone graft uncomfortable and what is flipper uncomfortable) and also seems to go against everything that I read.  What to do?  Thanks so much!

You should keep it in because if you remove it the gums may swell up and when you try to place the flipper back in, it won't fit and you'll be left with a space where that tooth is.
