Will too much novocaine make me drowsy?

Will too much novocaine make me drowsy?

I had 4 extractions yesterday.  They were only able to get 2 and left the rest of the other 2 to "come out on there own."  The dentist was surprised that my gums were not numbing.  I had 6 injections of novocaine in 8 different places, total of 24 injections.  It is 27 hours after and I am still so lethargic.  I am a very active 41year old male in good health.  I have no swelling and no pain in the extraction locations but the injection sights are a bit sore.  I just can't seem to sleep it off.  Is that normal to get so many shots and could that be causing my drowsiness?  Thank you for your attention and any help you could offer.  J

Hows the bleeding in the area?  Do you have any bleeding problems still?

I don't think that the anesthetic is causing the lethargic feeling you're getting at this point.  It actually would depend on how much anesthetic and what type they gave you to figure out what's running in your system at this time.  But after 27 hours, I would imagine that most of it has been cleared out by now.  The half life of lidocaine (probably the most commonly used anesthetic) is about 90-120 minutes so about half of it is gone every 2 hours.  At that rate, it should be almost entirely out of your system.  If you had liver problems which help to clear it out, I would say it may take longer but probably in the 4-6 hour range instead of the 90-120 minutes.
