cap to heavy

i have had pain in my tooth since the route canal.  i went to 3 other dentist for their opinion, and they agreed that the cap is to heavy for the tooth.  my original dentist would not re routcanal the tooth.  the other dentist told me u have to re route canal in order to change the cap, Is this true?   why can't someone just recap?  i been living in  pain for 2 years with this. i refuse to pull because front bottom tooth!!  please help!!

You don't have to re-treat the root canal in order to put on a new cap (crown).  But I would seek an opinion from an endodontist (root canal specialist) to see if re-treating the root canal would help.  If the specialist feels that a re-treat isn't necessary, then you can definitely just re-cap the tooth and that should solve the problem as your other dentists have evaluated.  I'm not sure exaclty how a cap can be too heavy though.
