my toungue is still numb

my toungue is still numb

I went to the dentist to have a small filling put in on my lower left side. Before I even felt the needle my toungue felt shocked. I felt the injection after that. After 20 days my toungue is still completly numb and the left lower side...Any help??  I have talked with my dentist he said he is sorry but there is nothing to do. How long will this last and what is going on

It sounds like there's an injury to the inferior alveolar nerve during the injection.  If the nerve is traumatized, it will result in numbness which can last for awhile.  Since its an injection, the nerve function will most likely come back but it may take up to 6 months for it to completely heal.  After 6 months, if it doesn't fully heal, it will be permanent.  Has there been any improvement at all?
