Dry Skin and Reddish area

Over the last couple of days I've noticed a lot of dry skin on the shaft of my penis. Shortly after, there appeared a little bit of reddish inflamation (inflammation) around the shaft. Though it doesn't really hurt, the dryness of the skin and inflamation (inflammation) is rather uncomfortable. I've been applying Lubriderm about 3 times a day. I figure it might be some sort of allergic reaction to my boxers, perhaps caused by dryer sheets, or simply the weather, but as its never really happened before its making me nervous. Any suggestions? Should I see a dermatologist or see if it clears up? Thanks.

It sounds like either dry skin or mild eczema.  If Lubriderm didn't make much difference, I suggest you try 1% hydrocortisone (over-the-counter) twice a day for 3-4 days.  If that doesn't help, you should see a dermatologist.  But it doesn't sound too worrisome.  Skin does this sometimes (including penile skin), often for no specific reason, though in the groin friction from exercise or sex could play some role.
