Herpes simplex 1 question

by greek40, Aug 16, 2009 09:43PM
I recently took a Herpes 1 and 2 test and it came back positive for herpes 1 and negative for herpes 2.
The councelor I spoke to said the herpes 1 is not considered to be an STD and she said its not a problem as long as no sores are present. I have never had any blisters, sores or lessions, in any location of my body.

Question: Is it true that herpes 1 can not be transmitted through sex? I did have sex with someone with hereps 1 (she told me that much later), although i can't trace my herpes 1 positive to her. I had never been screened before.
Any help or opinion is welcome.
Thank you.

Herpes 1 can be transmitted during sex if there is an open sore that touches the [partner's genitals.  However, a positive herpes 1 blood test means absolutely nothing sexual--just that you might have had a cold sore once (and don't remember), or even that you were exposed to the virus, as millions have been, but never had a sore to show for it.  Means nothing.  Forget about it.

Thanks.
