Just found out my mole was melanoma

Hi, I am consumed with fear.  I had a mole removed and just found out the results.  It came back as melanoma less than 1/2 mm.  I go tomorrow to have more of it removed.  Doc said not to worry, it's very small, nothing has spread and I will live to see my 3 young kids grow up.  I am consumed with fear and worry.  Isn't melanoma always deadly?  I've been on the Internet and that has scared me even more.  What do you think?  Just because it's small could it have already spread?  Will it be bigger once they get more of it out?  I am TERRIFIED!  Thank you for your time.

Melanoma is indeed a serious diagnosis, but not all melanomas are deadly.  A melanoma as thin as yours has an excellent prognosis.  Wait till the whole thing is off, so that your doctor can tell you about the full lesion and give you an accurate prognosis.  But your situation does not sound necessarily dire.

Best.
