Possible male yeast infection?

Possible male yeast infection?

Good evening.  I have recently felt a sensation in my groin area that I have never felt before.  I was sexually active with my girlfriend and after one of our sexual encounters I started to be itchy in my groin area.  I thought it was jock itch so I used Tinactin down there to get rid of it.  However, I started to feel a burning sensation in my scrotum area.  This scared me and I was worried I contracted something.  My gf told me that she gets yeast infections a lot and that this is probably what I'm experiencing.  She bought me some monistat cream and told me to put it on my penis.  I did this and it appeared to go away.  Additionally, she told me that she would probably get a yeast infection soon after because I would pass it to her.  Sure enough she got one.  However, my mistake was we were sexually active and we did use a condom during sex but not when she performed oral sex.  A week after it seemed to go away it appeared to come back.  That burning sensation in the scrotum area.  I kept putting the cream on and it appeared to go away.  However, I still feel a discomfort in the groin area.  It's not painful or itchy, just kinda uncomfortable.  I'm not sure what it is and it worries me.  I do not see any blisters or sores or bumps.  I do not have any discharge or pain when I urinate.  Just worried and would like some feedback.  Thanks.  Any additional information you need just ask me.

Welcome to the Dermatology Exert Forum! Thank you for your question.

There is no reason to worry but, after having repeated skin changes and subjective symptoms (itching, burning, and discomfort, only  temporarily improved by antifungal topical therapy), next step is to be seen by a dermatologist who will do his/her best to establish the right diagnosis (detailed examination, skin cultures, etc.) before prescribing any topical therapy.

It is quite possible that you have an infection, but other diseases with similar clinical presentation have to be taken into consideration and excluded (for example, intertrigo, folliculitis, eczema, etc.).

Feel free to keep us posted on your recovery.
