black flat moles

Are small, very tiny, flat black moles melanoma? My 26 year old son, has developed a very, very tiny small flat, round, black mole on his cheek. Somehow I have gotten the impression that if a mole is black in color it should be removed as it is more of a risk of being melanoma. He is Caucasion. Thank you for your help.

Moles can be dark without being melanoma.  A small mole on the cheek of a 26-year-old is likely to be nothing.  A brief look by a doctor should tell the story.
