white scars on penis after cryotherapy for warts

white scars on penis after cryotherapy for warts

hello doctor!

a little background: im a 24 yr old circumsized white male with no other medical issues. when flaccid, the skin on my penis is darker than the rest of my skin. its been 9 month since the first outbreak.

i went to the doctor for my yearly STD check. nothing was wrong except that i showed her this 'skin growth'. she said to wait 3 weeks and see what happend when i came back in to get my result. 3 weeks later, it got bigger and had 2 other growths. she decided they were warts. gave me condyline and told me to come back a month later. a month later, only 1 of them had gone(and came back) along with about 16 new tiny ones. she decided cryotherapy was the best way. she froze them, they healed well and didnt grow back. however, i now have about 20 white scars on my penis.it's been 6 weeks. my gf says she sees improvement. i dont.
when the scabs came off, the lesions were pink and white in the center. the pink is gone but left alot of white spots everywhere. they are not raised or deep and dont look like typical scar tissue. also, ive noticed a about 5 more she might of missed, so ill need to heal them asap.when she saw the white scars, she said we could try a higher concentration of podophilotoxin, or aldara (aldara is too expensive for me).after getting cut on other parts of my body, when the scab falls off i usually have a white scar, however if i look at old injuried, the pigmentation has gone back to normal
so here are my questions:

1- do these white spots go with time? can you give me a ball park time frame?
2- is there any way to help repigmentation at home?
3- are there procedures that can be done on the penis to fix this?
4- would aldara or high concentration podof. cause scars? white scars?
5- the doc told me that it was ok to have sex with my gf as shes probably already infected, and that any new warts that appeared would be from the virus in my body, not new ones she passed on? is that true? (she is assymptomatic).
thx doc

Welcome to the Dermatology Expert Forum!

1. Those white spots are most probably post-inflammatory hypopigmentation. That is quite common side effect, temporary in most cases with recovery time of 6-12 months.
2. Treatment of post-inflammatory hypopigmentation is neither necessary nor satisfactory.
3. Nothing rewarding enough.
4. Possibly, if deeper layers of skin get damaged. It is important that a dermatologist explain technique, frequency and duration of application to a patients in details to prevent such a side effect.
5. Optimal approach to protect your girlfriend (there is a possibility that she is not infected) would be abstinence until all lesions are successfully treated and healed. If you decide to have sexual intercourse, use of condom is recommended.
