Astigmatism toddler

Astigmatism toddler

I wrote previously about my child having strange red reflex photos. Left eye is always nice and red, the right eye is red but several times it has an orangish area (optic nerve can be seen probably?)

We had an eye check with a pediatric eye doctor, and was told good red reflex in both eyes with the opth.. device, the back of the eye can be seen good, there is no problem, and no refrective errors can be seen. No lazy eye with eye covering test either. I tried patching the other eye to test, she does not mind. So I do not see problem with vision.

If I do not see this kind of photos I would not worry, but I see it on new pics too. She is 17 month old, and I can find it on photos from month 4 first.
Can a slight phoria (I was told it is common) cause these kind of red reflex without being caught by an eye test?

The only other explanation I was able to find, is astigmatism. Could she have a slight astigmatism?

Would the eye doctor have seen the astigmatism or does it need a special test?

Some people, especially with large pupils will have a red reflex.  This also depends on the angle of the two eyes to the camera.  I would not be concerned if the pediatric ophthalmologist check it.
