IOL replacement after YAG

by phoenixmh, Oct 19, 2007 01:02PM
Is it possible to replace a ReSTOR or ReZoom lens after YAG treatment.  If so, how common or risky is it?

It is definitely possible but more difficult.  It's always easiest to remove and replace and IOL in the first few weeks after the original surgery.  After the yag capsulotomy, there will be a higher chance of vitreous prolapse needing a vitrectomy and the new IOL will probably have to be placed in the sulcus which is not as stable a position as in the capsular bag.  Skill plays a major part here.  I can't tell you the exact risk but I would be sure the surgeon was very comfortable with the situation and had done many successful procedures before.
