Removing a cataract in a patient with wet AMD can be helpful to vision.  It will not have very much (perhaps no) effect on her ability to read with the eye.  However if the cataract is quite dense, her overall perception of brightness can be improved and her peripheral vision can be improved.  Certainly one should be more cautious and less optimistic in the setting of wet AMD but this is not an absolute contraindication to surgery.
