greyish discoloration in white of eye

I have a greyish discoloration in the white part of my eye that you can see, the greyish color cuts off a little above my eyelid when I pull my eyelid out.  What could cause this and is it normal?

It could be thinning of the sclera, either in a normal area near the insertion of the superior rectus muscle, or it could be a problematic area due to inflammation which is usually quite painful and red.  I suspect the former but you should see your ophthalmologist EyeMD to have it checked out.
