, and have started to experience what I and doctors are calling gallbladder attacks. Last year, I complained about minor right upper quadrant discomfort, and y doctor tested by liver(blood test) which came back normal. I was feeling fine until about 5 months ago when I woke up in EXCRUCIATING pain. I'm not even sure it lasted 5 minutes but it was so bad I almost passed out. I went back to the doctor, who sent me for an ultrasound, which came back normal. Anyway, I continued to get attacks for the past 4 or 5 months, ranging from about a week to a month apart. One even lasted 4 hrs, which sent me to the ER, where I got a CT scan and blood work. (all normal) I finally saw a GI doc. about 3 wks. ago, who sent me for a HIDA scan w/ CCK. The tracer "wasn't moving" or something, so the tech asked me to drink water in order to move things along. The results were delayed gallbladder emptying and a 41% ejection fraction. My doctor thinks that this is borderline
, but probably normal because the HIDA scan didn't reproduce my symptoms. Is this probably normal, and where should I go from here? I have a follow up appt. in about 3 days, but haven't had an attack in about 1-2 months, which is the longest ever.
I just had a hidascan done & my ejection rate was less than 5%,so I am scheduled for a surgical consult to have my gallbladder removed. The nurse told me mine was barely functioning. Keep in mind these tests are not always conclusive. My boss had all the tests with normal results(I was told 35% & above was normal). She went thru 6 months of being sick & they finally removed hers. It was FULL of gallstones
