Chronic Constipation in a 3 year old
Have a 3 year old son, who has had chronic constipation.  Tried everything from chiropractic care to colonics.  Only way he is relieved is with enemas.  His stools are soft and light brown and well formed. He has a clean diet, lean proteins and vegetables, low sugar fruits.  He has had health issues since he was 3 months of age, throwing up and passing out episodes, lost his words between 15-18 months of age.  Has excelled from different therapies (oxygen, supplements, etc.) Have tried probiotics, digestive enzymes, etc. etc. In the process of doing a fecal test from parasites to colon health.  If it is not colon related, where do we go next.  He also runs cool temperature wise, cheeks are always cool and hands.  Nails are not healthy on hands and feet, chip and have ridges.  Has various food allergies, which we avoid.  If he does have something he is allergic to, gets really hyper and sometimes ecsema flairs up as well.
Thanks from a desperate Mom

Loripie, has he had colonic motility checked? Some children are born with a lack of neurons in portions of the colon. Those neurons help to control the peristaltic motions of the muscles in the lower portion of the GI tract. You could check with your doc about having a sitz/ring marker test done.

You may also want to find out if there is an enlargement of the colon due to the constipation issues, or a redundancy of the colon which, in some, appears to cause constipation.

The other thing I'm curious about is, has he been tested for celiac disease? Celiac doesn't have to result in diarrhea. It can also cause constipation.
