abroad, because while my doctors seem very competent and their English is good, I don't always get the full picture from them, when it comes to the followup. The gastroscopy results that I'm reading are these: Large Hiatal
Hernia, nodular gastritis, normal duodenum, clo-negative.
The doctor prescribed Pariet (a gastro-resistant tablet?) and Nizatidine (an antacid, I presume) and said to take these for 2 weeks and come back to see him, to avoid caffeine and eat at least 3 hrs before reclining. Does anyone have any more insight on what I might be facing in terms of long term treatment, or what these combined results indicate? I'm not excited at the thought that I might have to take medicine for the rest of my life or having surgery, but I'd like to know if these are possibilities. Any answers you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
, and this almost always needs surgery to repair. Especially a large one. Once the hernia is fixed the GERD should decrease. If it is a sliding hernia it is treated similarly to GERD so that might be what you have if they didn't reccomend surgery and just gave you medication, but I would find out for sure.
