My 5 year old daughter's stomach pains

by ape_1, Jul 14, 2008 04:03PM
My 5 year old daughter has been to the doctor several times b/c of stomach pain. She has complained of her stomach hurting since she was about 2 and a half years old. When I first brought it up to the doctor he was very dismisive. (My daughter is also very small she is 5 and a half and weights 28 pounds. She is 38 inches tall. I don't know if this has any connection but I have always wondered). Well about a year ago, my daughter started throwing up randomly. She was never "sick" never had a fever or any other symptoms. She would just throw up. Her stomach seems to hurt the worst in the mornings and in the afternoon. The doc has run many test on her and nothing has come of them. He put her on prevacid for a while thinking it may be an acid problem, but it didn't work. If she doesn't eat something VERY soon after waking up her stomach pains become very sever and if she tries to eat she will throw up. She may throw up 1 or 2 times and then be fine. And its not everyday. The stomach pains are serveral times a week and we try to keep her on a schedule with food to control whatever this is. But the throwing up can vary. It can be a couple of times a week and then not happen again for a month. But something isn't right. You don't have pain and throw up for no reason. My daughter has never been an "eater" and I wonder if its b/c of this. Sometimes her stomach gets bad and she doesn't want to eat at all. Sometimes she will go several weeks and it feels like she hasn't eaten hardly anything. And I will be to the point of tears and if during these stints I force her to eat she just throws it right up. Has anyone else gone through anything like this?

Check to see if anyone in your family has any form of food intolerance problem or perhaps celiac issues.

Keep a food diary and see if after tracking things for a couple of months you can find any trends. You may have to look at both specific foods and food groups. You'd be surprised at what a 'diary' might tell you - it's worth the time and effort.

What specific tests has the doc done?
