Nutrition and Pain

by Jetamio, Aug 04, 2008 05:19PM
HI there, just looking for anyone who can relate to this.... My father had a full gastrectomy 8 months ago due to stomach cancer, he has just finished chemo (spead to Liver as secondary) he has a feeding tube into his small intestine. At the moment he is having huge problems with eating and feeding via the tube. He expereinces huge pain almost like stomach cramps i believe and feels this is all due to wind, which he has lots of trouble expelling. He is afraid to eat or be fed at this point which creates obvious problems.. We are at a total loss as to how to help him, his surgeons are only good for telling us they have no idea. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you!

Your father can be fed in other manners. A line can be introduced into his vascular system and a pre-prepared solution can be used to feed him.

The feeding tube may have to be removed and other forms of nutrition provided. Go prod the docs a bit.
