PRILOSEC LONG-TERM CONSEQUENCES

by Dnas1, May 20, 2009 09:40AM
1) CAN TAKING PRILOSEC FOR OVER 6 MONTHS CAUSE G-cells to produce to much Gastrin in the stomach lining?

2) UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES WOULD ONE TAKE PRILOSEC FOR OVER 6 MONTHS?

3) CAN ONE PREVENT OVER-PRODUCTION OF GASTRIN?

4) CAN ONE DO SOMETHING TO REMOVE EXCESS ACID, besides taking more PRILOSEC?

CAN I GET A SEPARATE ANSWER FOR EACH OF THE 4 QUESTIONS PLEASE. THANK YOU!

1.  I have been taking Prilosec for about 6 months now and I cannot tell you if this will cause too much Gastrin.  My GI doctor told me if it helps to stay on it.

2.  I am taking it for this long as I have had some nausea and all tests showed that I have absolutely nothing wrong with me - yet when I go off Prilosec it comes back; when I stay on it I'm pretty much ok.  Doctor said stay on it.

3.  I don't know.

4.  There are other meds such as Prevacid, etc. but it's still an antacid.  Sometimes a blander diet can help with acid.  Lots of water.  I also take a probiotic - it doesn't say this helps for acid but they are for stomach concerns.  Perhaps worth looking into.

Sorry this isn't the most helpful answer ever but perhaps this might assist you a bit.

Good Luck.
