Pancreatitis??

by Milo99, Sep 27, 2009 04:43PM
Quick History:
Age: 42 year old male. History of binge drinking.
5 years ago developed Acid Reflux but only bothers me in seated position (at desk, in car, etc.)
3 years ago began getting very bad diarrhea and headaches after prolonged periods of sitting. This became very evident and memorable because it ruined the first few days of several vacations. Always after a long plane or car rides in the seated position.
2 years ago developed pain under right rib cage that became persistent. This was brought on by a diet change. Found out I had High cholesterol so began eating cheerios for breakfast with flax seed powder on it and walnuts with my lunch. Lots of salmon etc. This high oil (even though good oil) seemed to cause it. But never went away even after I stopped.
1 year ago after 6 hour car ride experienced severe diarrhea (went aproximately 30 times in a 24 hour period) after 2 days developed very bad abdominal pain along with the pain under rib cage. Has never gone away. Always worse when seated.
3 months ago began losing weight (some of it explained as I have quit drinking and diet is better) but have lost about 20lbs.. Have also noticed trace amounts of oil in my stool (not always present). This is very troublesome as I can't take even 1 over the counter digestive enzyme tablet as it gives me severe abdominal pain. Not sure if it is stomach or pancreas. Doctor prescribed Cotazyme-ECS 8 Pancreatic enzymes. These make it way worse. Actually feel if I continue to take these I will end up in hospital.

Tests: MRCP, CT Scan with contrast, upper GI, 2 ultrasounds, Colonoscopy, blood work for elevated enzymes.  ALL clear. Upper GI showed red patches on stomach. Still don't know what that means because doctor never said much about it.

Meds: Take 150mg Zantac daily. Anything stronger liks PPI's etc. actually gives me severe reflux, assuming it is digestive enzyme reflux however. Can no longer take digestive enzymes or even simple things like multi vitamins as it brings on very bad abdominal pain.

Conclusion: When I sit it feels like my blood supply to my abdomen or something is being restricted somehow. This has caused many chronic complications. Doctors have no answers for me. Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Thanks for listening to my winded speech :-)
