I am 51 years old and have been taking medication for GERD for the past 23 years. For the past 8 years or so, I've been taking Prilosec and had no acid discomfort at all. Recently (Dec 08) I had a 2nd second upper endoscopy to check on everything and was diagnosed for the first time with a hiatal
hernia. Since the procedure I have had continual acid discomfort, despite taking medications daily. The only difference in medication was that I had switched from a capsule to a tablet. I went back for a follow up with the gastroenterologist, told him of the problem and he put me back on the capsules. It has been three weeks since I've been back on the capsules and the acid discomfort hasn't gone away.
My lifestyle hasn't changed at all from before the 2nd upper endoscopy to now, yet I'm experiencing acid burning on a daily basis. The only thing that happened was the procedure. It is possible that the procedure itself could be responsible for the change in my condition?
