hiatus hernia and gerd

i will be soon having a operation for hiatus hernia and gerd .im a bit in the dark about what 2 expect after the op .how long i will be in hospital what 2 eat etc.docter saying i will be out following day back 2 normal after a month and returning 2 work.but having read bits and pieces on internet im not so sure.will i b able to eat a normal size meal in time have a drink go back to a normal life,something i havent done for a couple of years .i am having second thoughts about the op any one got any advice to give me thanks steve
