of magnesia. everyone is stumped as to why she is not gaining weight, but is grownig lengthwise. she was 6 lbs 13 oz at birth, and is currently 12,9 lbs and gets weight checked every 2 weeks. i was told we are going to have to use either a ng tube, or a stomach feeding tube if she does not gain weight soon. any suggestions of how to get calories into her?
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! I think getting a NJ tube or a GJ tube would be the right option for her. Both an NG tube and a stomach feeding tube (G tube) feed the stomach and you said that her stomach is not emptying properly (called gastroparesis
). With a NJ tube, the tube goes past her stomach and into her small intestine. With a GJ tube, there are 2 ports, one leading to the small intestine and one leading to the stomach. I think she needs some sort of feeding tube, but I think that she really needs the food to not go into the stomach, but to go into her small intestine.
