i a  dying of acid reflux
Avatar dr f tn
Hi there,
Dyspepsia is common during pregnancy due to acid reflux. During pregnancy there are hormonal changes which may have a relaxing effect on the sphincter muscle. The tone of the sphincter is reduced during pregnancy. The increasing size of the baby in the abdomen causes an increased pressure on the stomach. Increased consumption of spicy foods, chocolates, tomatoes, fruit juices, coffee and alcohol can increase reflux. Certain postures like lying down or bending forward during the day encourage reflux. Sitting hunched may put extra pressure on the stomach, which may make reflux worse. If the symptoms are severe certain medications like ranitidine may be prescribed by your doctor. It is considered safe during pregnancy. If the symptoms are severe it is best to consult a doctor. Do keep me updated.
Take care and regards!
